Receive Ozone Action Notices!

The New Jersey Ozone Action Partnership has three main goals: public awareness of the ozone pollution problem, corporate and individual action to help prevent unhealthy ozone concentration, and avoidance of ozone pollution's negative effects.

You can receive free Ozone Action emails the day before a high ozone (smog) day.  So that you and fellow employees can help limit ozone.  This includes:

  • Carpool, vanpool or use public transit.
  • Reduce driving.  If you must drive, try to combine trips.
  • Refuel your car in the evening and don't "top off" the tank.
  • Postpone using mowers and gas-powered yard equipment.
  • Barbecue without using starter fluid.
  • Keep your car tuned-up.  Emissions from one untuned car equals 25 properly maintained cars.
Participation in the Ozone Action Partnership is simple and voluntary.  The partnership depends on the basic elements of awareness of ozone pollution's effects and its predict occurrences, action to diminish predicted unhealthy levels of ozone, and avoidance of exposure to elevated ozone levels to reduce their health consequences.

Levels of ozone and particle pollution are both expected to be unhealthy for sensitive groups.

People at risk include:
  • Adults of all ages exercising or working outdoors
  • Children and older adults
  • People with heart or lung disease (including asthma)
  • People with unusual susceptibility to ozone
Over half of the population is at risk and should cut back or reschedule strenuous activities.
