Hydrogen Feul Cell Model Car Challenge!
TransOptions will host Hydrogen Fuel Cell Model Car Challenge on December 9, 2009, at New Providence High School. Teams of students spent months designing and building their hydrogen-powered model cars in preparation for the race.
The competition, one of the hands-on activitied used in the U.S. Science Bowl, also requires the teams to produce, store and transfer the hydrogen "fuel" for their models. In addition, each team must produce a documentation portfolio illustrating their concept, design and the development process.
For additional information about the challenge and other free environmental education programs, please contact Joseph Caravella, Environmental Programs Manager at jcaravella@TransOptions.org or at 973-267-7600.

The Green Machine, built by students at Newton High School.
Jake Mull, a teacher at Newton High School led a past winning team in the speed category. "The Green Machine" fondly named as an environmental project and ironically because he and all four students of the team living the town of Green. The team recorded a speed of 30 feet in five seconds, approximately 5 miles per hour.
Mr. Mull conveyed that his students really enjoyed the camaraderie and collaboration aspects of the project as they devolped and built "The Green Machine". As an acedemic project, commented Mr. Mull, "his students had applied what they learned in class to something they can put their hands on."
